Send Meridian alerts to Microsoft Teams
Meridian can post spending alerts into a Microsoft Teams channel. Today that is the daily, weekly, monthly, and total spending alerts you create in Meridian. Other alerts, such as unowned agents and unpriced usage, are not sent yet.
It uses a Teams Workflows webhook, part of Power Automate. You don't need to install the Meridian app for this.
Before you start
- You need permission to add workflows in the Teams channel you choose. If the Workflows option is missing, your Microsoft 365 admin may have restricted Power Automate; ask them to allow it for this channel.
- Use a standard channel. Choose one your finance or platform team already watches, for example #ai-costs.
- The workflow runs as the person who creates it. If that person leaves your organization, the workflow stops. A shared or service account is a good choice for the creator.
Step 1: Create the workflow in Teams
- In Microsoft Teams, open the team and go to the channel that should receive alerts.
- Select More options (⋯) next to the channel name, then Workflows.
- Search for and choose the template Post to a channel when a webhook request is received.
- Give the workflow a name, for example Meridian alerts, then select Next.
- Check that the team and channel are correct, then select Add workflow.
- Teams shows the webhook URL. Copy it. You'll paste it into Meridian next.
Treat this URL like a password. Anyone who has it can post to your channel. Don't share it in email or chat.
Step 2: Add the URL in Meridian
- Sign in to Meridian and go to Settings → Notifications.
- In the Microsoft Teams section, paste the URL and select Save.
- Switch Teams alerts on.
- Select Send test message. Within a minute, the channel should show Onaro Meridian test alert.
Meridian stores the URL encrypted and shows only its beginning from now on, such as https://….logic.azure.com/… or https://….powerplatform.com/….
Slack too?
Meridian can send to Teams, Slack, or both. Each is configured separately. See Send Meridian alerts to Slack.
Troubleshooting
- Meridian says the URL isn't accepted: copy the full URL again from the workflow. Meridian accepts only genuine Microsoft workflow addresses that start with
https://. - The test message doesn't arrive: check that the workflow is turned on (in Teams, ⋯ → Workflows → Manage), and that its creator still has access to the channel.
- You need to change or remove the channel: select Remove in Meridian, create a new workflow in the right channel, paste the new URL, select Save, and switch Teams alerts on again. To stop alerts without deleting the URL, switch Teams alerts off.
