Day in the life: CFO at month-end
Last reviewed 2026-11-07.
Short answer. Start on Dashboard and separate an Estimate from a Settled total, and unattributed spend from idle capacity. Book each vendor invoice on Add billing data only after you confirm the billing period. Clear Unattributed on Agents & allocation, or leave it to post on unallocated suspense. Lock the month on Chargeback after those invoices are booked, then post from that locked month.
Morning
Open Dashboard. A total is Settled only when the month has ended and every row in it is reconciled or invoiced. Until then it is an Estimate.
Read "N% of spend still open" and Unattributed — open inbox → on their own. Idle capacity is the "Nobody used it" card. Do not add those two figures together.
The bills
For each vendor bill, open Add billing data. The procedure, including the confirmed billing period, the invoice as the total, and a likely duplicate, is A surprise invoice.
The open rows
Open Agents & allocation. The Unattributed tab is spend with no agent. Assign it, add a rule, or leave it. Unassigned dollars still post, on unallocated (suspense), so the month balances.
Lock and post
On Chargeback, preview the month. Lock it only after the invoices for that month are booked. Post from that locked month. QuickBooks stays on "No locked chargeback periods" until a month is locked. Business Central says "Direct posting to Business Central isn't available yet." Export the journal and post it there.
