Day in the life: developer adding an agent
Last reviewed 2026-11-07.
Short answer. On Agents & allocation, Add agent asks for a name and a department, and the owner starts as you. Create agent saves it. Connect the provider that agent calls on Integrations, or the spend has no agent until a source or a rule names one. An agent with no department still holds spend, and the department is what places it on a cost center.
Add the agent
Open Agents. The page title is Agents & allocation. On the Agents tab, Add agent says "Name + department. Owner defaults to you ({email})."
The name field placeholder is "Support Copilot." Department includes None. Monthly budget is optional. Create agent saves it. While it saves, the button says Saving….
The owner is you. To name someone else, that person has to be on Team first. Clearing an owner is not available once one is set. See An agent with no owner.
The spend has to name it
Creating the agent does not attach a provider key. Open Integrations and connect the source that agent calls. Until a source names the agent, or a rule on Unattributed matches vendor or model, the dollars stay unattributed.
A Usage ingest key feeds usage into Meridian. It does not stop a provider key, and it is not the Discovery event key Shadow AI uses. Connecting the source is How to connect a provider.
